Chapter VP Mark Irving entertained the membership with a demo on turning a natural edge bowl.
This one looks like cherry.
In this shot Mark is prepping the chunk by digging out the bark to get down to solid wood for the dead center to drive against.
Mark explains to the assembly,
“This is wood.”
Burt Truman gets set up for shot
But he’s not too sure that Mark is ready
He’s not too sure that the wood is ready either.
Say Cheese!
You talking to me?
Nope.
I’m talking to you!
A study in concentration
Getting the form“just so”
Mark takes the wood’s pulse to be sure it’s ready for the next effort.
Chips ahoy!
Power sanding
I have no idea what that thing is.
One can only hope that Mark does.
Starting the interior of the bowl
Continuing on the interior of the bowl.
Mark points out where not to set the bowl gouge.
More power sanding.
Hard to tell what’s happening in this shot, but I like it nonetheless.
Ta Da!
