Chuck examines Ron Kostron’s Attic Wood vase for some clues to its etymologic history

mar 07 st zz01

Nope. This is definitely not Attic Wood.

Apparently, the dark spot on the vase’s bottom is what rules it out.

mar 07 st zz02

Chuck determines that Ken Shepherd’s Sailor’s Bowl cannot be Attic Wood either. Ships don’t have attics, he said.

mar 07 st zz03

Peter McCrea’s double finial lidded hollow form survives Chuck’s eagle-eyed assessment.

mar 07 st zz05

Don Caron’s bowl gets the once over.

mar 07 st zz0603

Chuck looks to the membership for assistance in classifying Mike Chase’s bowl as Attic Wood.

mar 07 st zz0702

Humminah Humminah Humminah.

I hereby declare this Attic Wood.

mar 07 st zz08

With a wink of his eye and a twist of his head, (along with some slight of hand wizardry) Chuck declares Mac Ray’s hollow form free of an Attic Wood classification.

mar 07 st zz10

All wood turners know that segmented pieces are usually free of Attic Wood.

Chuck inspects Tom Raymond’s lidded bowl, just to be certain.
