On the night of February 15th, Professor Mac Ray took us on an interesting journey through some of his texturing and finishing techniques.
In this shot he’s praising the relative merits of various types of sandpaper.
Mac showed us a simple trick to improve the workabilty on the indexing ring on Erskine Academy’s Oneway 2436.
How many times that night did Mac say something like, “Just a little piece I picked up out of the junk pile to work on tonight with you folks. Probably been there for three years or so.”
Notice where the chuck is mounted!
Mac took a plain old Dremel tool set up with a router base (for handling ease) to demonstrate some piercing.
Also did some pyrography.
He’s putting down some lay out lines on this piece. The block of wood is like a toolrest for the pencil.
The lines are made and shown with an earlier piece of the same design.
More pyrography.

A whole mess of stuff for Show and Tell
A shot of the members from Vulture’s Row.
Had a great turnout of the membership for Mac’s demo.
Al Mather uses his x-ray vision to see Mac through the bandsaw.
Peter Asselyn kicks off a rowdy wood auction by having Mark Irving do all the heavy lifting.
A great night!
